The History of the: Jim Davies Sr. Memorial High Point Award Trophy
Jim Davies Sr. was born in Bellevue Ky (located next to the Ohio River) in 1918. His love of boat building was there from day one. To his list of race boats were the following all in different classes from runabout to limiteds. Such names as “My Dream”, Scuffy , High Up Keep , Scuffy Too , Warrior and Coyote™ were all part of the his racing legacy. His first of many trophies was won in 48 cu.in. hydroplane in 1953.
Jim Davies Sr. and his love of racing, along with many other Dayton Ohio racers helped to start what was then the Dayton Motor Boat Racing Association . By 1965 the first of many races were held at the Dayton Hydrobowl . And in 1966 Jim Davies Sr. was Commodore of the DMBRA Club .
The racing legacy was continued by, his sons Jim Jr. & Ron who took over racing his limited boats. Both sons having much success racing the boat named “Coyote” until eventually sold by Jim Davies Sr. In 1972.
The racing of R/C Boats by the Davies family was started by both Jim Jr. and his brother Ron and still continues on to this day. Jim Jr. once said “ Dad would never get into r/c boats but after watching them run , built many r/c boat until his passing in 1996.
